Note to Customers:  Please do not purchase a donkey if he will be alone.  Donkeys are herd animals and need another donkey to be playful
and happy. Although miniature donkeys get along with goats, alpacas, sheep, and horses, they are not "donkey happy"
without a
donkey friend.  We have seen the difference right here on our farm.  Thank you.
Lesson 4:  The Secret
Visitors Often Ask Us This Question, "Why Are Your Donkeys So Affectionate?"  Here's the Secret.
We could tell you we use a scientifically proven method but the plain truth is that we just love on them every day.
Imprinting our foals (introducing to humans) at birth helps them become trusting and affectionate. Each foal receives a health check and
vaccinations. Hoof handling begins soon after birth. Halter/lead training begins at two weeks. A foal stays at her mother's side until four
months of age
for social training and for highly rich milk which provides nutrients for strong bones and proper growth. We truly enjoy our
foals and adults and spend a lot of time
loving on them and watching them play. They crave human attention and know no stranger.
Come visit and be
truly amazed by donkey affection.
A heartfelt "Thank you!" to each of our wonderful, caring customers!

Picture Coming Shortly After Birth

These things just can't be rushed,
can they Pretty-In-Pink ?!!?
Lesson 5:  What to look for in a jennet expecting to deliver soon.
We learned something new with this girl.  Her milk bag began to visibly change/enlarge over a month before she was
due. Her due date was 11 months, 2 weeks from conception.  The bag change usually happens closer to the delivery
time. She was also sensitive around her teat/bag area, two good signs she is preparing to give birth. Those signs
really fooled me, partially because I was so excited about the new baby.

Two long weeks
later, nothing changed, so I prepared to wait longer. We are on donkey time after all.
After two more weeks, she still had no
white color to her milk, just clear fluid but we felt the glands in front of the bag
enlarging.  With our other jennets, foals have arrived within 5 days of this.  Not in this case. Her milk bag was not
showing enough fullness, nor had the glands enlarged any more.
She was not ready to deliver and nurse her foal.

So, we now have a donkey who
must prepare in these ways:  her milk glands will swell and feel very firm, her milk bag
will fill and feel and look full and rounded. Before a visible plug develops, her milk
will be milk-colored.  Her teats will
develop a little "plug" visible to us humans. After that we will not test her milk because we do not want to expel the
plug (seal).

My husband says if I would stop examining her twice every day, she would deliver sooner.
"The watched kettle never
boils," he says.
Well maybe so and maybe not. Besides, she likes to know I am there if she needs me.
After deciding to break our farm rule and keep some of our spring foals, we reluctantly offer five jennets for sale.  This was a
difficult decision for us and a rare opportunity for you. We offer our adults to permanent, loving homes
in which they will get lots of attention and never become the forgotten farm animal.
