All are friendly, in-your-pocket, want-to-help-you-do-everything, docile donkeys (except Annie). Annie, although a very smart and sweet
donkey, takes a little time to warm up to you.
All but one of our donkeys range from 42 to 48 inches tall at the withers. Our mammoth is 53".
Standard-size donkeys are primarily used as guards for your herd of cows, goats, and yes, miniature donkeys. We have zero problems with
predators including dogs, bob cats, coyotes, snakes, fox, and raccoons on our property. Our miniature donkeys, goats and horses are safe.

- A Story about Annie. When we had our roof repaired, the roofer wanted to see our donkeys. Upon walking him into the field, Annie
promptly posted herself between him and me. As I talked about the donkeys, she moved gently against me and slowly nudged me
further and further away from the visitor. It was quite noticeable to him and to me. Hmmm. She was PROTECTING ME. I still don't
know against what or why, but it was truly amazing and something I would never have believed possible. Animals have another
sense that people do not have. I trust it.

- As you take your Sunday afternoon drive, check the cow and horse fields for a pair of long-ears standing among them. Those
ranchers and farmers know that good herd protection is not best achieved with hot wire.
Small standard and standard-sized donkeys are also excellent for:
- companions to horses
- protector of horses and their foals, protector of cow herds and miniature donkey herds
- Note: they protect better when they are in pairs
- protectors against dogs, coyotes, snakes, other predators
- cart-training
- showing
- breeding
- loyal pets
- life-long companions to humans
Very much like the miniature donkey breed, standard donkeys:
- love human affection
- love to work
- are easy to handle
- are easy to maintain
- require few if any vet calls
- need vaccinations just like their horse cousins
- need pasture, mineral blocks, and clean, fresh water (can have small amounts of grain)
- do not require big acreage (about 1 acre for a pair of donkeys)
- require a donkey friend to be donkey happy
